As the 2019 school year comes to a close, we wanted to shine some light on Monterey Trail ATH Zach Larrier, 2019 Graduate and Air Force Academy Commit for Football & Track.  Zach also completed his career with an outstanding 4.1 GPA.
After reviewing Zach’s career accomplishments in athletics (Football, Track & Field & Basketball) we are making a case for Zach Larrier as possibly the greatest student-athlete in California High School Sports History!

Zach is continuing his career as a student-athlete at the Air Force Academy where he will play Quarterback for the football team and run Track and Field.  Zach’s skill set will help make the Air Force Falcons a Mountain West Power and I could easily see that team winning 10+ games in a season while Zach becomes a Heisman candidate in that offensive attack.
We had a chance to speak with Zach about the process of becoming who he is today as an athlete and we uncovered some interesting facts.

Childhood: Zach grew up in Youngstown, OH and moved to Northern California in 8th grade.  He’s been playing quarterback since he was 7 years old.  Zach’s mother also was a collegiate 400m runner.
Speed Training: Zach trained with Middle Distance Coach Chris Grimble throughout his career.  Zach shared with us that he never once ran a full speed rep during a track practice over the last two years and essentially trained like a 400/800 runner which is extremely rare for high level football players.  This is partly because of injuries but also because of the training philosophy of his coaches.  This allowed Zach to be primed and ready for each race.  Running 10.68a, 21.30a, winning the California State Championship 400m dash and anchoring the California State Championship 4×100 is not by accident.
Football: Zach credits his coaches for his team success at Monterey Trail.  Zach stated that their teams were always supremely conditioned compared to their opponents which helped make up for any talent deficits.  Zach led his team to the 2018 SJS Divsion 1 Championship game and a 12-1 record in one of the most competitive areas of the county.  Running the Veer offense featured Zach’s decision making ability and explosiveness by presenting the threat of him running the ball every single play which is any defensive coordinators nightmare.  Zach was also one of the best DB’s on the entire West Coast training with KT Prep and earning over 10 scholarship offers from schools such as California, Oregon State, Washington State, BYU and more.
