By now most are familiar with the Herbert name and the success the family has had on the football field. Mitch Herbert is considered one of the nation’ top receivers at the FCS level. His 14 career TD’s at Montana St thus far, adds to what was a phenomenal career at Sheldon HS where he led the state in receiving yards and touchdowns (1,073 yards 21 total TDs), while winning the 2012 State title.
Justin Herbert has recently taken over the starting QB duties at Oregon. He is the first true freshman to start for the Ducks since 1983. Justin shattered records at SHS, totaling 57 TD’s (46 passing, 11 rushing) to 3 INT’s in just over a season. He missed most of his Junior year due to injury.
All of this said as Sophomore Patrick Herbert looks to be the state’s top ranked athlete for the 2019 class. The 6-5 225 pound WR looks the part and then some. Much like his brothers he is a 3 sport athlete, and equally impressive in baseball and basketball.
Pat scored multiple TD’s as a freshman, and caught 19 passes for 242 yards and 2 TD’s the first three weeks of this year. He was injured in week four versus North Medford, undergoing surgery on his foot, which will most likely allow him to return this season.
Herbert is special in that he has learned so much that can’t be taught from his talented siblings. His combination of genes, size, and overall athleticism will make him one of the most recruited wide outs in the country before he is done. Without a consistent double team it will be very hard to contain him at any level.
All of the statistics and accolades aside you would be hard pressed to find a better group of character kids. Patrick and his brothers exemplify everything you would want in a student athlete. Expect to see Herbert ranked among the nations elite covering the next few seasons. We will keep you updated upon his return from injury.
