Every year Head Coach Shawn Stanley has his Titans in conference title contention, as West Salem is a traditional 6A power. A kid that will go a long way in helping that trend continue is returning all conference DB Keonte McMurrin (5-10 170 ATH 17′).
McMurrin has been a part of the Team Oregon (EForce Football) group the past two seasons, featuring the state’s top talent. He has separated himself with a work ethic and desire that speaks to his talents on and off the field. Keonte is a three sport athlete & first chair tuba player in the Wind Ensemble at the high school. He carries a 3.2 GPA with honors classes and attends Young Life in his spare time, also singing at his Church.
All of this said as McMurrin is one of the tougher kids we have come across. You never hear him complain, as he has battled the regions top athletes the last two years on the 7v7 circuit. Keonte caught double digit passes between the Las Vegas and Seattle tournaments, scoring multiple times.
West graduates a handful of division 1 kids from the last few seasons. Chances are they will need Keonte’s services on the offensive side of the ball. He plays with no fear and can cut on a dime. McMurrin will project as one of the GVC’s top dual threat athletes, and someone that we will hear a lot about in 2016.
In summary I can’t say enough good things. His combination of character traits and athletic ability put him in a special category. We will keep you updated as the season draws near.
