If we are referencing the NW’s all time top High School QBs, Stanford Baseball commit Tim Tawa should be one of the first names mentioned. The current Junior & 2X time Oregon Gatorade Player of the Year broke the state’s all time record for Passing yards in a single season with 4,420 in 2015.
The 6A MVP threw 50 TD’s and only 3 INT’s, hitting on 68.3% of his passes. As most know the Lions went (12-2) losing a nail biter to Jesuit in the title game. Tawa is one of America’s top baseball players, so the commitment makes sense. His 4.03 weighted GPA speaks to his focus in the classroom.
He isn’t your prototypical QB from a size standpoint , and you typically don’t hear his name when people are talking on the countries top 2017 Quarterbacks.
That said as Tawa is in my opinion an unquestioned D1 QB, that could do well in the Pac 12. There are certain people that are just gamers and Tim is one of them.
His pinpoint accuracy and leadership abilities are second to none. Over the last two seasons he has thrown for 88 touchdowns & 9 INTs, accumulating 7,363 passing yards. With a full season to go he has a chance to re write the OSAA record book.
The Lions will most likely be ranked the #1 6A team in the state heading into next year. Head Coach Chris Miller has done a phenomenal job with the group. Timmy is in a unique situation with his commitment. Stanford typically likes QB’s with size, but if I’m the Cardinal I definitely take a look at Tawa.
To summarize the kid just wins. The numbers which he has put up are ridiculous. It will be interesting to see what opportunities present themselves, given his combination of talents. One thing is for sure… Tim Tawa is one of the best high school football players to come through Oregon in some time.
