Anthony Adams sits at the top of the charts if we are referencing the top overall athletes in the Northwest. The Newberg standout is a can’t miss D1 kid and should be the next individual offered from the 2017 class.
Playing Varsity ball as a freshman at the 6A level is rare. Adams did it in three sports, earning 2nd team all conference honors as a 9th grader in baseball. He has started every game of his high school career, hitting .387. His overall versatility is second to none within the state of Oregon. Anthony comes from a very talented family with his brother Darnell projecting as one of the top players in the Big Sky. The 6-3 200 pound wide out had a breakout season for the Vikings in 2015 (22 receptions, 478 yards, 6 TD’s).
The youngest Adams separates himself from others as he is typically the best at whatever he does. Even with his multitude of talents there is no question that he projects on the football field. As a Sophomore he earned 1st team all league honors from his DB spot, in the brutally tough TRL. In 2015 he did it again, except this time on both sides of the ball, while also playing QB. Covering the last two seasons he has rushed for 23 TD’s and passed for 9. Defensively he is a lock down corner that can also play safety.
Speaking on this upcoming year he says, “We have the potential of being one of the best teams ever to come out of Newberg High School”. Adding, “Personally I hope to help raise the level of play every day at practice and do whatever I can to help my team.”
Adams could be the steal of this years elite 2017 recruiting class. He will end up as a Mid Major/Pac 12 type athlete, with schools such as Oregon giving him legitimate interest. For Big Sky’s not to have offered yet makes you shake your head.
As much as any kid I have ever been around Anthony embodies everything that you would want in a student athlete. The last two seasons he has represented Oregon and EForce Football as part of the state’s all star 7v7 travel squad. He has helped the group to consecutive final four and sweet sixteen appearances, with 120+ teams attending the Las Vegas national tourney each year.
The Newberg basketball team made an unprecedented run this past season, as Adams made it a trifecta, earning all conference honors in hoops. He averaged 10 points and 5 rebounds per game. All of this said as he is an honor roll student, and someone that just consistently gets it done on and off the field.
To summarize, its kids like Anthony that make what we do worth it. We will keep you updated as the off season progresses.
