Battle Prep West had the opportunity this past Sunday to check out some of the region’s top talent compete for roster sports on the Kenion Training 7v7 Elite Travel Team.  We were not disappointed as the day was filled with quality competition and good vibes.  The tryout started off with some fierce 1 on 1 match-ups and ended with 7 on 7.  The athletes were competing for a spot on the 2 elite teams, 2 rebel teams (developmental) or practice squad, no one gets cut.

Kenion Training caught our attention a few months ago because of their reputation in the Bay Area as one of the Elite 7 on 7 programs.  This program is run by one of the top coaches on the west coast, Nathan Kenion.  Coach Kenion currently coaches at national powerhouse, De La Salle (Concord), where he is also an alumni.  What makes this program unique is their approach to making sure each student-athlete involved with the program is taking care of business in the classroom.  Kenion Training provides tutoring, SAT/ACT prep and exposure to colleges around the country.

I was blown away at the amount of talent out there this past Sunday.  8th graders all the way up to current juniors from all over northern California were in attendance battling it out.  De La Salle Alumni and former Michigan QB, Matt Gutierrez, was out coaching up some of the top QB’s in attendance.  It was great to see kids from different schools building bonds and getting to know one another.

We will keep track of the Elite KT 7on7 team as the off-season rolls along as they plan on competing in various tournaments such as the self hosted KT Tournament in San Ramon on Feb 14th, two tournaments in Los Angeles, 2 out of state trips and the Quick 6 Tournaments here in the Bay Area.
